ISBU Construction Nightmares- Why Use ISBA Certified Members ____________________________________ They Could Have Been Prevented Sadly, there may be be more Shipping Container home horror stories than successes stories right now. And all could have been prevented by using Certified ISBA Members. We're sure you've read some, others were reported to us by some very sad readers. Such a broad range of unnecessary money loss and construction nightmares, ranging from using the wrong type ISBU modules, toxic recycled containers, cutting out the wrong metal supports, improper foundations, wrong insulating procedure, outrageous shipping costs, containers that were fake ISBU containers, buying the wrong height, stacking incorrectly, or spending too much money for containers or work. Many of the project losses were actually built by good, licensed building contractors, and two were famous projects making national news headlines. None of these bad construction projects were ISBA Members. All the problems could have been prevented if the contractors, dealers, or architects were ISBA Members.Example #1 You've seen this photo in the MSN News video and on most internet websites for a few months. Built by a very credible San Francisco company, but in dealing with ISBU shipping containers they made a few costly errors that were very unnecessary. If they were ISBU Association Members, the Members website clearly gave every detail and warning they would have needed. One problem was the use of insulated ISBU containers which can create very costly exterior modification. The second was using improper foundation materials which will defeat it's safety in even a minor earthquake -- the list didn't stop there. ISBU module use and construction is quite simple, if you know several rules to avoid. Example #2 Another well known project is now a Member, but was not when they did their first project that was well publicized. Among other things, they did not use proper insulation until they learned of our ISBU Association. They paid too much for their ISBU module and also used the wrong paints and wrong ISBU unit. This was a well known architect and building developer in an "un-named" U.S. city. Because of the errors on their Demo unit, they were prevented from getting proper partners, investors, and government backed projects. ...a year was wasted and credibility was lost. All was 100% preventable if they had heard of the ISBU Association before they started the project. Today they have a great respect for our simple Organization that shares experience, research, and ideas from builders, architects, and fabricators from the U.S. and around the world. In fact ISBU contractors in other countries actually have more project experience than most American projects by two or more years. Alerts, Warnings, Statistics and Education One other important feature of dealing with a Certified ISBA Member is that you know they are Certified and businesses with any complaints and ethical problems are removed from our Member list. Our membership fees are very realistic for even the smallest business and there is no good excuse for a legitimate contractor or Eco-Green technology related vendor to not join the ISBA. Not only can you have updated, efficient technology, but it can also meet U.S. LEED standards for lenders and make easier resale. Ask you contractors, ISBU dealers, and related suppliers if they are Members. Make your home or office building project the enjoyable experience it should be. ...sustainable long term happiness, rather than endless problems. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Note: Some readers have expressed some confused with ISBU and ISBA. - ISBU is an ISBU Shipping Container unit or module used for construction or storage. - ISBA is the ISBU Association organization. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
